The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed fears that the polio virus may re-emerge in EU member states and the EU’s polio-free status may end.

The World Health Organization issued its own statement on the occasion of World Polio Day on October 24 Report I expressed concern over the measures taken to diagnose and prevent polio in EU member states.

According to the World Health Organization, although according to the 2023 report, the presence of the polio virus was not found anywhere in the member states of the European Union, the protection measures against the said virus in the region are slow.

WHO expressed the fear of re-spreading of polio virus in the member states of the European Union and called for the diagnosis of polio virus samples and taking strict measures to prevent it.

According to the World Health Organization, there is a possibility of re-spreading polio, especially in the 6 member countries of the European Union, the mentioned countries are at risk.

According to the WHO, six countries of the European Union, including Austria, Belgium and Romania, are at risk of polio recurrence, so protection measures should be tightened there.

In addition, the World Health Organization showed the possibility of further spread of polio in Palestine, Israel and other war-torn countries.
